How Much Weight Can a Flat Roof Support for Solar Panels?

In many flat roof photovoltaic projects, wind loads can have a significant impact on the required ballast weight. Depending on the building height, roof layout and wind zone, additional ballast may be necessary to ensure long term system stability.

Our ballast systems are available in 30 kg and 40 kg versions, allowing greater flexibility during the planning process. If required by the project specifications, additional ballast can also be added.

The ability to adjust ballast weight can be particularly useful for projects located in exposed areas, on higher buildings or in regions with increased wind loads. This flexibility allows designers and installers to adapt the system to the specific requirements of each project.

The final ballast requirements should always be determined based on project specific structural calculations.

Flat Roof Solar Installation Near Linz, Austria

We recently completed a residential photovoltaic project near Linz, Austria.

Our task included transporting and placing concrete ballast blocks on the flat roof, as well as supporting the DC side installation of the PV system.

Concrete ballast systems are a reliable solution for flat roof solar installations, providing stability without roof penetration while helping to protect the waterproofing layer.
All concrete ballast elements were transported to the roof using a lifting system and positioned according to the installation plan to ensure proper load distribution and long-term performance.

Why Choose Concrete Ballast Systems for Flat Roof Solar Installations?

Concrete ballast systems are becoming an increasingly popular solution for flat roof photovoltaic installations.

Some of the key advantages include:
No roof penetration required
Fast installation
High stability
Reduced need for additional ballast
Durable long-term solution

Every project should be evaluated individually, taking into account roof load capacity, wind conditions and local requirements.
